Mini Albums Tips

You guys, it’s a Christmas miracle. I actually scrapbooked. And not only that, but I finished the project. Yay! I had so much fun putting this mini album together for my Lolaberry.  I still love creating. Everything about the process, the supplies, the colors and textures… It’s crazy how much time I spend on something like this. But it is priceless and I know Lola will cherish it. Spending time in my studio is something I really miss. I’ve made countless mini albums over the years and I put together some tips for creating a mini album.

1. All About That Base
   Find a theme for the pages. I start a mini album by gathering something interesting to use for the pages. In this case, I found a stash of old Dear Lizzy white ruffle paper and I wanted to incorporate it. So when I am organizing the album I think of a theme for the pages. What I mean by that is, I use a handful of papers and then rotate them through out the album. For this one: polka dot vellum with confetti, ruffle paper with phrase thickers, clear acetate with circles, and white cardstock with embellishments. That is the base of the album that I repeat a 3-4 times. Then I add in a few different pages to keep it interesting. I included a page of Lola’s coloring, a piece of fabric sewed on cardstock and a pocket page just for fun.
   
2. Rinse and Repeat
   Next, it can be overwhelming to think of scrapbooking each page of a mini album. To streamline the process, but still have fun and be creative, I choose a couple techniques and repeat them. For this one I chose watercolor, sewing and simple stamping. For the cardstock pages I first watercolored on each one. Then added stamping, ink splatter as well as flags and stickers. Repeated on all the pages with white cardstock. It was so fun and since I stuck with that I finished the project faster instead of having to think of something different for each one. I also added sewing to a few pages.
   
3. Filler-up With Photos
   For me, so much of scrapbooking is about the photos. I think that full page photos are eye-catching and… fill up mini albums faster so that I get the project done. Which is my main goal these days. Instagram photo books are so easy. I mean, with Chatbooks they are put together and sent to my door automatically. Since I still love creating, having full page photos gives it the feel of modern photo book but by designing a mini album it gives me the freedom to get creative and add a homemade touch to the keepsake. Something with a deeper meaning, handwritten love notes to treasure and tangible details.
